GIARDIA STILL SUX!

Ok, took Ash to the vet this morning to get him tested for the nasties.

He came back with a trace amount of Giardia (which is why he was having the runs) and OH, just to be funny...he also had round worms.  Lovely.

He's on antibiotics now, but since Giardia is highly contagious (to other animals and humans), Happy is also on meds too.  Hopefully (crossing fingers) this is the end of Diarrhea splatters all over the yard.

So, $200.00 later...I'm feeling I got screwed.

I got Asher for $38.00 at the pound but in ONE MONTH have spent close to $600.00 in vet bills.  I love you guys but COME ON!  Give me (and my wallet) a break...please :)

till next vet visit...

GIARDIA

Asher still has diarrhea and its been a month since I brought him from the shelter.  I have switched foods and now its looking like we might have a bigger problem on our hands.

Tonight I will be cooking rice and chicken for my Ash.  Rice and chicken is very mild and helps with upset stomaches.  I have done this for Happy one time before and it does really work after a few days.

Also, tomorrow Asher is going back to the vet to check if he has GIARDIA.  It sounds as bad as its spelling.  I dont know too much about it so I googled it.  Sounds pretty serious.  Its an intestinal infection caused by a parasite.  They are found in many animals, including dogs and humans.

They attached to the lining of the intestines and blocks normal digestion causing diarrhea.  This is not often noticed in regular fecal exams because they are smaller than worms which are usually visible to human eyes.

AHHHHHHHHHH.  Another thing going wrong.  Its contagious so its possible its spread to Happy and to me.  GROSS.

This makes me sad.

Update on Asher

He is crazy.

thats all.

Thursday, May 14, 2009

Meet Asher.
He sleeps A LOT...all the time actually.

We think he is a Shepherd/Collie mix and he's really
eager to learn.  He's very affectionate and likes to sit at your feet
and live kisses.  Quiet the opposite of Happy, who is much more
independent and only comes to you when she wants something.
Happy is really sweet though.  I love her.
I love them both.

He still has diarrhea though.

I hate cleaning it up.

Kitty lives The Good Life

Hi my name is Arnica!
I am not your typical independent cat.
In fact, I am the biggest love bug.
I love to sit in your lap, on your lap top (while in use), licking your face, your hands, rolling on my back so you can scratch my tummy.
Hey wait, I'm not a dog!  Sometimes I just act like one.

Anyways!  I (Wendy, not the cat) have been going to the Downey Animal Shelter for the past 3 weekends.  It was a tough place to go to, but Im really glad I went.  There are SO many animals that need homes and a place where they can be loved again.

...

I have a secret.

My dad doesnt know.

But everyone else does!

I'm bringing home a puppy from the shelter today.  shhhh!

It's gonna be one of those, SURPRISE!  haha...yea...i found him, or I mean, my friend found him and needed someone to take care of him...yea...

haha.

okay!  well, I have to believe my pets live the good life and I would like to give that to another if I can.  And in return, they let me live the good life cuz animals make our lives so much better!

Himalayan Dog Chew Review

Himalayan Dog Chew Review

Happy is a Great Pyrenees, a breed that tends to be "Night Barkers." So it is important for me to find a treat that keeps her busy through the night (or at least until she falls asleep!)

So I ordered the Himalayan Dog Chew made from Boiling Yak and Cow milk and then are dried for several weeks.  You can read a small description in photo above.  It almost looks like a hard candy.  I gave it to her around 9pm and I didnt hear a peep from her until about midnight...and still then she was pretty quiet.

Wendy's Review:  GREAT!  Kept Happy occupied for hours.  Didnt have any bad smells.  Feels very substantial.  Large treat was around 6" x 1 1/4" wide.  Plenty for a large dog.  Possibly may be Medium size next time because I have a feeling Happy buried what she didnt finish...

Happy's Review:  Tasted good.  Buried the rest for later eating.  Tastes like milk candy!

Grade:  A

ANTLERZ REVIEW

Antlerz Review:

I think this initially did not appeal to her because she ran past me a few times while I had the Antlerz in my hand and she didnt even seem to notice it.  I sniffed it and it didnt have any sort of odor and looked chalky.  Usually when I have Bully Stick or chicken stick she will immediately run to me.  It was odd looking but once Happy had it in her mouth she seemed to like it.  She was chewing it and licking it but after a few minutes she was not interested.

She got distracted (maybe someone walking near our house) but she was barking like crazy. With a Bully Stick she will get distracted too but she will always return to her Bully.  I tried to get her to chew the Antlerz again but it never happened.  She just ignored it all night.  I tried to give it to her again the next day but she didnt care about it at all.

Wendy's thoughts:  Great concept.  Interesting treat if your dog likes it.  Doesnt splinter, rich in minerals, and all natural.  I will not be ordering this again but it doesnt mean that other dogs wont love it!

Happy's thoughts:  Was cool for a few minutes but didnt take like something I like.  Maybe better for another dog who is less picky.  Bully Sticks are still my favorite.

Blue Square Cat

I took this picture of Arnica as the sun was starting to set.  I like all the colors that are coming through the window and blinds.  Since its been getting really warm, I leave the windows open so Arnica can lounge on the window ledge.

How to keep your pets cool during summer:

- Trimming their coat but making sure its not too short or else they can sunburn especially if they are left outdoors during the day.

-  Plenty of fresh water.  For Happy, we have a kiddie plastic swimming pool I fill up before I leave to work and throw a few toys in there.  When it gets too hot, I fill up big tupperwares with water and freeze them overnight.  The next morning I put the blocks of ice in her water and in her pool so it keeps cool longer in the day.  She also likes to play with the ice :)

-  Also, its smart to have more than one bowl of water out as dogs and puppies will splash around in their water sometimes emptying them or getting the water too dirty.

-  Create shade if necessary.  I have 2 outdoor umbrellas and also a giant canopy thing for one side of our yard.  You will find Happy lounging there most of the day.

-  There are also products like the Canine Cooler beds which you is like a thin waterbed for your dog.  Happy didnt like hers but other dogs seem to love it.  Instead I have a Pet Cot which is an elevated bed.  Those allow air to pass beneath them and they dont have to lay on hot concrete.  Pet cots are better overall since the dog will not have their joints against hard ground.

There are a ton of products out there that can help keep your pets cool during the summer.  These are just a few suggestions that I do for Happy since she is definitely NOT a warm weather dog.

Okay, that went from a cat post to a dog post.

Animal Magnet

Hello Puppy!

My dad found this little girl hanging outside of our house.  She looks like a 2 month old pittie. She is so sweet.  I went home during lunch and saw her and played together.  Happy was being all jealous and growling at her (bad dog!)  Couple times Happy was being so aggressive and mean and it made me so mad.  Hopefully they will learn to be okay with eachother.

As much as I would like to keep her, I have to post up flyers to see if she is someone's dog.  I think she is because she is so friendly and wants to be inside all the time.  I want her but I think if my dog got out and lost I would really hope someone would post something so I can get her back.  They must be worried.

Anyways!  So pretty cool day.

A Different Kind of Day...

Today, my friend Julia, went to heaven to sit with Jesus in her new home.  Its a sad day but my spirit celebrates knowing she is somewhere without pain and suffering.  I will miss her smile and hugs and her presence at church but at the same time, her presence is everywhere now.  Julia, thank you for holding onto your faith and trusting God through the most turbulent times.  Your strength and love will never be forgotten and one day we will see eachother when my time comes.
Love u :)

Its Raining Bunnies and Dogs

I came home last night to find the same Tan bunny got out of the cage running around the garage. Happy also manage to get out of her "area" and ate some burger king left overs and who knows what else.

Bun Buns

So, last week I came home and parked my car in the garage.  Right as I was going to walk into the house I saw a cage in front of the fridge.  I literally was like, "What the heck?"  And inside the cage were two little bun buns.  One is a really pretty tan color and another is dark brown with a white collar.

I have contacted two rescues already to see if they can take them but every shelter is so full. Looks like we're gonna keep them until we can figure out a new home for them or a rescue can take them in.

Also, how come only my dad and I remember ever seeing a "killer bunny" movie?  No one else seems to know it but we both swear we have seen it.  I googled it and the movie that came out was "Night of the Lepus."  I think this must be it.  They bunnies get all giant (cant remember why) but they start attacking everything and killing people and horses.  A family goes into the basement and the bunnies start digging through the ground and find them with their giant noses.  Sounds kind of crazy but it freaked me out at the time!

I'll post pics of the Bun Buns soon.

Just a Girl and her Dog

One day when this world goes away, I'm going to remember the love you gave.

I'm going to remember when you slipped out of your collar and how you made us chase you down the street.

I'm going to remember the way you bit me and made me cry when we first met.

I'm going to remember how your extra toes dangle when you run.

I'm going to remember how all the fur you shed broke the swimming pool motor.

I'm going to remember how you make me fall on the ground and scraped my knees and elbows as you chased a bunny.

I'm going to remember how you chased the two boys and you made me fall and my shoes fell off and we had to chase you around the park in the mud to catch you.

I'm going to remember the way you make me feel when nothing seems right.  How you would put your paw on my leg in a way telling me to "snap out of it."  How you would roll over on your belly.  How you would drool all over the place.  The way you are at dog parks...wandering all alone and not playing with the other dogs.

You are still a young girl Happy but I dont ever want to forget.

Quiet Time

Oh Happy.  Eyes so soulful and concerned.  Smile so goofy and endearing. Ears that perk up and down.  A wet nose touches mine.
