type='text'>GIARDIA STILL SUX!

Ok, took Ash to the vet this morning to get him tested for the nasties.

He came back with a trace amount of Giardia (which is why he was having the runs) and OH, just to be funny...he also had round worms. Lovely.

He's on antibiotics now, but since Giardia is highly contagious (to other animals and humans), Happy is also on meds too. Hopefully (crossing fingers) this is the end of Diarrhea splatters all over the yard.

So, $200.00 later...I'm feeling I got screwed.

I got Asher for $38.00 at the pound but in ONE MONTH have spent close to $600.00 in vet bills. I love you guys but COME ON! Give me (and my wallet) a break...please :)

GIARDIA

Asher still has diarrhea and its been a month since I brought him from the shelter. I have switched foods and now its looking like we might have a bigger problem on our hands.

Tonight I will be cooking rice and chicken for my Ash. Rice and chicken is very mild and helps with upset stomaches. I have done this for Happy one time before and it does really work after a few days.

Also, tomorrow Asher is going back to the vet to check if he has GIARDIA. It sounds as bad as its spelling. I dont know too much about it so I googled it. Sounds pretty serious. Its an intestinal infection caused by a parasite. They are found in many animals, including dogs and humans.

They attached to the lining of the intestines and blocks normal digestion causing diarrhea. This is not often noticed in regular fecal exams because they are smaller than worms which are usually visible to human eyes.

AHHHHHHHHHH. Another thing going wrong. Its contagious so its possible its spread to Happy and to me. GROSS.

This makes me sad.

wendy

Happy is a Great Pyrenees, a breed that tends to be "Night Barkers." So it is important for me to find a treat that keeps her busy through the night (or at least until she falls asleep!)

So I ordered the Himalayan Dog Chew made from Boiling Yak and Cow milk and then are dried for several weeks. You can read a small description in photo above. It almost looks like a hard candy. I gave it to her around 9pm and I didnt hear a peep from her until about midnight...and still then she was pretty quiet.

Wendy's Review: GREAT! Kept Happy occupied for hours. Didnt have any bad smells. Feels very substantial. Large treat was around 6" x 1 1/4" wide. Plenty for a large dog. Possibly may be Medium size next time because I have a feeling Happy buried what she didnt finish...

Happy's Review: With a Bully Stick she will get distracted too but she will always return to her Bully. I tried to get her to chew the Antlerz again but it never happened. She just ignored it all night. I tried to give it to her again the next day but she didnt care about it at all.

Wendy's thoughts: Great concept. Interesting treat if your dog likes it. Doesnt splinter, rich in minerals, and all natural. I will not be ordering this again but it doesnt mean that other dogs wont love it!

Happy's thoughts: Was cool for a few minutes but didnt take like something I like. Maybe better for another dog who is less picky. Bully Sticks are still my favorite.

<div the sun was starting to set. I like all the colors that are coming through the window and blinds. Since its been getting really warm, I leave the windows open so Arnica can lounge on the window ledge.

How to keep your pets cool during summer:

- Trimming their coat but making sure its not too short or else they can sunburn especially if they are left outdoors during the day.

- Plenty of fresh water. For Happy, we have a kiddie plastic swimming pool I fill up before I leave to work and throw a few toys in there. When it gets too hot, I fill up big tupperwares with water and freeze them overnight. The next morning I put the blocks of ice in her water and in her pool so it keeps cool longer in the day. She also likes to play with the ice :)

- Also, its smart to have more than one bowl of water out as dogs and puppies will splash around in their water sometimes emptying them or getting the water too dirty.

- Create shade if necessary. I have 2 outdoor umbrellas and also a giant canopy thing for one side of our yard. You will find Happy lounging there most of the day.

- There are also products like the Canine Cooler beds which you is like a thin waterbed for your dog. Happy didnt like hers but other dogs seem to love it. Instead I have a Pet Cot which is an elevated bed. Those allow air to pass beneath them and they dont have to lay on hot concrete. Pet cots are better overall since the dog will not have their joints against hard ground.

There are a ton of products out there that can help keep your pets cool during the summer. These are just a few suggestions that I do for Happy since she is definitely NOT a warm weather dog.

Okay, that went from a cat post to a dog post.

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: pittie. She is so sweet. I went home during lunch and saw her and played together. Happy was being all jealous and growling at her (bad dog!) Couple times Happy was being so aggressive and mean and it made me so mad. Hopefully they will learn to be okay with eachother.

As much as I would like to keep her, I have to post up flyers to see if she is someone's dog. I think she is because she is so friendly and wants to be inside all the time. I want her but I think if my dog got out and lost I would really hope someone would post something so I can get her back. They must be worried.

Anyways! Looks like we're gonna keep them until we can figure out a new home for them or a rescue can take them in.

Also, how come only my dad and I remember ever seeing a "killer bunny" movie? No one else seems to know it but we both swear we have seen it. I googled it and the movie that came out was "Night of the Lepus." I think this must be it. They bunnies get all giant (cant remember why) but they start attacking everything and killing people and horses. A family goes into the basement and the bunnies start digging through the ground and find them with their giant noses. Sounds kind of crazy but it freaked me out at the time!

I'll post pics of the Bun Buns soon.

Just a Girl and her Dog

<img style="float:left; I was a little scared to spend the money but I know it will be worth it. Its a little stiff at the moment (my dad did not approve haha) but once it gets broken into it will be good. So far, Daniel, my brother and my kitty has all taken a seat. In fact, I think Arnica loved it a little too much! She slept there all night instead of next to me on the bed! hehe, cuteness.

Treat Review: I bought Banana Chips wrapped with Chicken from Petsmart last week. Happy approved! She loves them! She makes them look so yummy that I have been tempted to take a bite. jk! They do look good though. Anyways, I just wanted to update to show you guys my new couch.

I will be receiving a package with some Great White Shark Chews from Best Bully Sticks. I already know Happy loves them so there wont be a review. She's gonna be excited!

wendy

Quiet Time

Oh Happy. Eyes so soulful and concerned. Smile so goofy and endearing. Rumor also has the Russian Blue as a descendant of the Royal Cat of the Russian Czars and as a favored pet of the Queen Victoria.

The Russian Blue is a gentle, affectionate cat easily distinguished from other breeds. One of the most outstanding features is the short, dense coat of an even bright blue color with each hair dipped in silver. The silver tipping gives the Russian Blue a silvery sheen that can be appreciated in natural light. The body of the Russian Blue is fine boned (not Arnica, she's fat), long, and firmly muscled (maybe underneath all that fat?)

Disposition: They are quiet, clean cats (yes, Arni is very clean), who are playful and loving companions. Despite their shy natura, they are devoted and quite affectionate toward their loved ones (So true!) Sensitive to the mood of the house, Russians will "clown" to quiet a crying baby or sit patting your face to chase away the blues.

This is interesting: While the R.B. may at first glance look like any other grey cat, a more careful look will show them to have a special appearance all their own. They have been said to look as if they are smiling and that the reason for that smile is known only to themselves.

If you want to read the whole profile, here is the link I got the info from: Russian Blue

Fish - No, but Shark...Yes?

A couple posts down I had wrote that Happy did not like the Fish Sticks I bought for her. I was a little bummed and I should throw them out now. I keep hoping she would start chewing them but they are in mint condition.

I saw the 6" Great White Chew online at BestBullySticks. The fish failed epically so who knows why I thought Happy would like Shark? I ordered it. Gave it a shot...and she LOVED it! She really devoured the whole thing in about 10 minutes and only crumbs were left.

Here were the reasons why:

1. The are made of Thresher Shark Spine and nothing else! Kind of cool huh.

2. They are good for teeth and are packed with Chondroitin for joints. I know this is good for you because when I hurt my knee the doctor made me take Chondroitin pills.

3. They are a good source of omega 3 fatty acids that promote healthy skin and heart.

4. The most important reason of all...is that they have anti-cancer properties!

Did you know that cancer is leading health issue for dogs? Like human cancer there is no direct pinpoint to where it comes from. Its estimated that 1 in 4 dogs will die from canine cancer. Cancer is the leading cause of death in both Cats and Dogs over 10 years old.

According to VPI Pet Insurance, dogs are:

1. Twice as likely to develop leukemia than humans.

2. Four times more likely to suffer from breast cancer.

3. Eight times more likely to develop bone cancer.

4. 35 times more at risk for developing skin cancer. Insane.

Possible reasons why the risk is so much higher than humans:

1. Dogs may be consuming carcinogens in their dog food. Some of the chemicals used to preserve pet food have been revealed to be cancer causing agents. Sadly, Mouth Cancer is the 4th leading cause of cancer in dogs.

2. Dogs regularly inhale unseen cancer causing materials.

3. Dogs get a lot of sun exposure. On a sunny day (especially So. Cal) dogs are likely to hang out in the sun for hours. This can lead to a large amount of ultraviolet exposure and likely the reason for skin cancer in dogs.

ANYWAYS. Enough of the sad talk.

Enjoy life while its good. Enjoy it when its bad because its the only life you got, so live it to the fullest with no regrets!

wendy

Its Love, I Swear

My cat, Arnica, rules my house. She goes from room to room, couch to couch, strutting her stuff being fabulous and fat (yes, she's quite chunky...) This is what I bought for her but its actually 2 different pieces. The steps are separate from the rest of it but I wanted her to be able to lounge on the steps next to my table. She doesnt do that though since she would rather lounge in my lap more than anything.

My cat loves her cleaning pipe self scratcher. Its the black "U" shaped item at the bottom left. She may appear to be spoiled but like the title says, I swear its Love! She is such a good cat. She's clean, cuddly, gives me kisses on my nose, and snores. She never barfs (well not anymore since I changed her food) and never leaves any food.

I have to say, just say NO! to Science Diet cat food. Even the sales girl at Petsmart advised against it. Arnica is currently eating Wellness Light dry food with Fancy Feast grilled can food. She seems to really like the Wellness food. It contains no by-products, gluten (big no-no) and no artificial colors, preservatives, or flavors. One great thing about this is the fact they added Cranberries to the ingredients. One of the number one reasons cats go to the vet is because they get the dreaded UTI (Urinary Tract Infection.) If you see your cat peeing in other places besides the litter box (either on a hard surface or really soft surfaces) your cat has a UTI.

Daniels cat started peeing in the bathtub and stove top (hard surface.) Arnica started peeing in my clothes (soft surface.) The Wellness food knows that and added 3 different types of cranberries to promote a healthy urinary tract.

Okay, well thats my thoughts on cat food for now.

wendy

<img call this photo, "The Virgin Happy."

Happy is very camera shy at times. She will be totally still and the minute I take out my camera or try to take a photo on my phone she moves and wont stay still. Arnica does the same thing. Camera shy I guess.

This photo I got just in time though. We were outside playing tug-of-war with her blanket and she sat down so I threw the blanket on top of her. She looked so cute and funny and gave me her signature "sideways glance." It was like she was in a photoshoot mood because I was able to capture a few good photos that night. I'll post more later but this one is my favorite out of them all.

<br doubt I love my animals. I only feed Happy what I think is best and unfortunately with quality you have to pay the price. Happy is currently on Natural Balance Duck and Potato dry food and with it, I give her a few pieces of Grass Goodies (which she LOVES) and a slice of chicken from Zukes.

So I have been thinking about something for the past couple weeks. Since I love animals, I love them all...even other people's pets haha. Last Christmas I have Daniel's kitties presents and so I starting thinking about this year. With the current state of the economy who has money to spare? And if you had money, wouldnt you just spend it on yourself or gifts for "people?"

Anyways, I think I will get something for the little pets around the world (well, around home and the office.) A bully stick online is about $1 and I can put a bow on it and there you go! A gift that your doggy will love and love you more for (and love me more and more for haha.)

So this year, I choose to give...even though its a small thing.

ps. thats my cat Arnica helping me wrap my gifts last year :)

<div

I was too tired to clean it but I needed to find out WHY she was barfing. I looked over to my right and noticed something giant covered in dirt on the floor. Oh gross! It was an old bone that she had dug up and she must have tried to eat it and her body was like, hellz no and barfed. The bone was so old that it had stuff growing on it, like a plant root. You know its bad when a bone is growing something!

Anyways, I trashed it and she hasnt barfed since then. I should pick up a type='text'>Ugh, Belly Aches

Since Sunday, Happy's stomach has not been well. She has been having the runs but she doesnt seem to be affected by it much. She was still running around and being her silly self. My dad told me not to feed her anything for a day. I said "NO" and fed her anyways. Bad move. My dog walker told me the same and to hold food from her for 24 hours. If she gets better, then feed her some mushy rice and chicken but if it continues for a couple more days to go visit the vet.

So my dog walker (Heidi) took away Happy's food. She didnt seem to mind at first but after the 24 hours passed and I fed her the rice and chicken, she was eating like a maniac. Needless to say, her poop is better and she is now back on her Natural Balance.

I'm gonna receive a package from Best Bully Sticks today so I am excited to see how Happy enjoys her "fish" sticks! I will post her reaction. I hope its a good one!

Wendy

<span name's Wendy. I have created this blog for my dog Happy Feet aka Happy aka Puppy Face. She is a Great Pyrenees and almost 2 years old. We took her in after a friend could not take care of her anymore due to her size and her "wild side." She was a bit of a crazy dog with no manners at all. I recall days when all I could do is bury my hands in my face and cry because I felt like I could not control her especially since she is a large dog too (and I am not so large.) Luckily I found time and a private trainer to help me with her manners. Her biggest issue was that she was not shown enough attention so the only way she could get it was to bite people. It was extremely tough on me because she would run at full speed and just start biting me and tearing my clothes. After a few hard months, we finally came to a truce. I dont know how it happened but it just did. She is now one of the most amazing dogs ever. She is so smart, cute, quirky, and goofy.

So the reason for this blog is to review products, training tips, and whatever else that makes Happy a Happy dog! I feed her so many different kinds of treats and I would love to share what I find with other people. Also, I have 2 cats too so I might throw in a few cat facts here and there.

Thanks for
